Life on the Prairie

AUGUST 5 –   Biked the Des Plaines River Trail yesterday. The weather was perfect. Sunny, 84, no too humid. We brought our toy poodle puppy, Izze, with us. Of course she would rather be running but given her size I’m sure she wouldn’t last long. Her bucket is not her favorite place to debut given the choice of bucket or stay home, well you know, she chose bucket.

My son is starting a Sunday school program for adults at Keshet in Northbrook. He is very excited. Keshet provides a wide variety of services to individuals in the Jewish community with disabilities. It will be over an hour drive for us but I think it will be well worth it.

They are breaking ground on our addition in 4 weeks. Why does this process move so slowly? I can hardly wait.

Enjoy the rest of the summer while it lasts.

JULY 25 –  Well it’s been quite a summer here. The weather has been so hot it hasn’t been easy keeping the garden happy. But the cucumbers and squash are thriving and the lettuce hasn’t bolted:)

Headed out to see a Chicago White Sox game today. We left during the 6th inning because the temperature was so hot, almost 100, it was just impossible to sit out in the blazing sun. Hope they won without us. LOL

After almost 2 months, the permit for our addition was approved. I have so been wanting to purchase mcm furniture and home accessories but was holding off until everything was “Go.” So you know now I’ll be hitting the estate sales for quite some time to come.

Try and stay cool!

MAY 1 –  I know most parents think their kids are cute and I am no exception. My son belongs to a club that does a variety of different activities on Saturdays. This weekend they decided to plant an herb garden. When I asked him what plants they planted his response was “weeds”.  LOL   It might help for you to know that my son has autism. He can come out with some pretty good one-liners.

Big news here on the prairie. We a re putting an addition on our house. Originally we had hoped to move. We are not under water but when we add in the amount of credit we would need for the addition, we don’t have 20% equity since the value of our house has gone done so much:( We scrimped and saved and are paying cash. Trust me it wasn’t easy but it will be worth it. They should start sometime in the next two weeks. Will post pics once they begin.

Have a good week:)

APRIL 13 – We just got back from a week at Disney. The weather was amazing. We have been there about 15 times but have never gone when the weather was so marvelous. 80 and NO HUMIDITY. Of course, the lines were screamingly long, but that’s par for the course at Disney.

It was our first time at Wilderness Lodge. We were in room 1502 (we have a Disney timeshare) Great location. Really convenient. Close to the buses (which were really hassle-free and not terribly crowded).  Close to the main building and swimming pool yet still peaceful and quiet. The service the staff provided was great. We were in a studio which sleeps 4 but honestly, I thought it was a bit tight for the three of us. I’d stay there again but would probably go for the 1 bedroom.

We ate at Whispering Canyon, Chef Mickey’s, Crystal Palace and Kona. Hands down favorite was Kona. Great service and great food. My son has life threatening allergies and they had no problem accommodating him.

Usually we approach the parks like we’re invading Normandy – timed to the minute. This time we decided to just chill and enjoy a slower pace. Went bike riding, enjoyed the water parks, pool and boats. It was lovely. Definitely going back again this time next year.
